Fourth Arts Block (FABNYC) partners with BAAD! for the Summer Dance Block Salon 2016! A collection of works-in-progress, this Dance Block Salon is also part of BAAD!’s OUT LIKE THAT! Festival and includes a mixed-format feedback session at the end of the evening.
In this edition, artists sharing work have a particular consciousness of the community and embedded culture within the OUT LIKE THAT! Festival. This is an exciting “inter-borough,” “inter-district” collaboration that seeks to provide an opportunity for the development of ideas and in holding space together, widen and strengthen the circle of support among the community.
Fourth Arts Block (FABnyc or FAB) strengthens the cultural vitality of the Lower East Side. Founded in 2001, FAB successfully facilitated the purchase of 8 properties from the city, thereby securing permanently affordable spaces for non-profit arts and cultural groups; Today, using the work in the East 4th Cultural District as a model of engagement, FAB remains committed to increasing access to arts and culture in the Lower East Side. FAB provides community building resources for neighboring organizations, activates underutilized space through Dance Block, promotes sustainability through Load OUT! reuse and recycling events, energizes public space with their ArtUP initiative, celebrates the dynamic history of the LES through Lower East Side History Month, and elevates the visibility of the community through its online blog, FABRIC.
